Summer

The air is hot and the sun beats down
Everything is yellow
The cicadas are singing their song
It feels like it'll never rain again

Our only solace the shade of trees
And drink of cold running water
Or a swim in a fall or river
And a nap to pass the midday heat

---

Make life sweat and boil me alive.
Blind my eyes and darken my complexion.
Make dry the rivers of living water
And yellow the plants in my field.

Make life sweet and keep me cool.
Open my eyes and lighten my countenance.
Make sugar the fruit at my table
And cause flowers to bloom for no reward.

Can an action occur without thought,
Or is not the absence of thought in and of itself thought,
And can thought occur without prior action,
For what is there to think about otherwise,
And if action is required for thought,
And thought is reserved for the living,
Then thought is a living thing,
It must be physical,
The dead don't walk around
And the soul cannot think,
And if the soul cannot think,
The soul cannot know,
Knowledge is of the body,
The soul can only feel,
And it is in this feeling that eternity lies,
Thought is of the body and being
Of the body, dies with it,
The living know not they are alive
But at best know they are not dead
And the dead know nothing at all,
Such is the condition of man.

O serendipitous synchronicity
Shift the tracks of my destiny
And send my train into the light
